Frequently asked questions

Digital delivery, file formats, printing and more.

Buying & downloads

Is the Starter Kit really free?

Yes. Enter your name and email and the First Flock Starter Kit is yours. You'll have the option to add other tools, but you never have to buy anything.

How do I get my guides?

Everything is a digital download. Once checkout is live, you'll get a download link by email right after you pay. Nothing is shipped.

What format are the files?

Every guide, planner and tracker is a PDF. PDFs open on almost any phone, tablet or computer with free software that's usually already installed.

Can I print them?

Yes. The files are laid out for standard US Letter paper (8.5 × 11 in) and print well on a home printer. Print the trackers and checklists as often as you need for your own flock.

Will I be charged again later?

No. Each product is a single, one-time purchase. There are no recurring charges.

What's the difference between the bundles?

The Complete Chicken Keeper Bundle groups our four core guides and planners. The Ultimate Backyard Chicken Library includes everything we make, including the First Flock Binder and the Starter Kit. See each product page for the full list.

My download email never arrived. What now?

Check your spam or promotions folder first. If it's not there, email us at rainbowhenco@outlook.com and we'll sort it out.

Refunds

What is your refund policy?

Our refund policy is being finalized and will be posted here before the shop opens.

Draft for review: Refund policy is a placeholder. Decide whether to offer refunds on digital downloads (and for how many days) and this answer, the Terms page and the help note on the home page will be updated.

About the guides

I've never kept chickens. Is this too advanced?

Not at all. The guides are written for complete beginners, in plain language with short sections and checklists.

Do the guides replace a vet?

No. They cover everyday care and help you notice when something seems off, but they're not a substitute for advice from a veterinarian who treats poultry.

Will this work outside Michigan?

Yes. We're based in Michigan, so we pay special attention to cold winters and hot summers, but the care basics apply to backyard flocks almost anywhere.

Are these written from scratch?

Yes. Every Rainbow Hen Co. guide is original work written for our customers.
